hope you’re excited for the feast that is coming in a few weeks… We had an awesome day on Sunday. Lots of people coming in to get their first skateboards – both short and long. Also had a mid-40 year old dad bring in his daughters and take advantage of our cheap completes section. The girls walked out with a gorgeous Fiberflex deck, Revenge trucks, and 3dm Grapey ape wheels for only 120 dollars – sweet deal… The dad bought a new dervish flex 2 and we had a nice long chat about the importance of local shops. He said that it would have been possible to get products online but then he would have missed the entire excitement of feeling the wheels he wanted to buy and gaining expertise by talking with the people running the shop. He wanted to learn how to do basic slides and after 20 minutes in the shop and a few runs together in the street he went home with a new purpose. 30 minutes later we got a phone call from that dad exclaiming that he did it, HE DID IT! He hit his first slides and said they felt amazing… sliding for his first time in his 40’s, a beautiful thing indeed. Hope your holiday season stays fresh and catch you in the future…

Sunday went very nicely in the shop. Lots of people coming in for their first boards. One of which will have a custom paint job by Jordan – very cool. The first slide clinic will be this weekend on Saturday the 31st. Yes, that is Halloween, and YES you can wear your costume to the slide clinic if you so desire. We will be starting with a basic pendulum and for those that want to get freaky, we can work on 360s and stand-up slides or anything that gets you excited… All you need to bring to the clinic is your smile, a helmet, a skateboard and a desire to get slippery… Slide Gloves will be sold at a special clinic price by Doug the engineer of SOMOS skateboards and if your board isn’t perfect for sliding that’s fine because we’ll have a few to try there. The only limitation to the clinic is that you are over the age of 18. If you would like more information feel free to contact dave at somosskateboards@gmail.com or by space microphone at 408-660-0532..hope to see you at the clinic.
Don’t forget about Purple Sunday – wear a Purple Skunk t-shirt or hoody or the color purple and you get 10% off on your purchase. Cheers! Lizzie Skunk
Sunday was smooth sailing in the shop… We had a big rush with lots of goodies being scooped up. 3 people in sequence purchased completes covering three different style of skating. First guy got a Mark Gonzales Krooked complete for skating street, the second guy scored a Somos Skates 9” square tail for Potrero’s bowl, and lastly a Loaded Dervish flex 2 jumped off the shelf with tasty 83a Durians for downhill smooth sliding… We got some more sign-ups for the Purple Skunk Slide Clinic which is gearing up to send a new breed of skaters sliding into the San Francisco area.

The Tim Brauch Memorial Skate Jams get funner every year as we just experienced #11. As we pulled into the
parking lot I noticed a HUGE Gravity van with Brad Edwards standing next to it and naturally introduced myself. After a few words I walked away with a brand new 40″ Led Zep deck that he gave me. Wow, not bad for the first 5 minutes! After putting my deck in the car Christian Hosoi pulled up and parked right next to us.
Still early in the morning, this was already turning out to be a great day. “Thanks Tim, thank you for your
happy raging spirits you instill in the hearts of us all”!!! Since Christian sat on the parking block in between our
cars changing out his wheels it gave me the opportunity to chat, hang out with him and even meet Classic and Jennifer Hosoi. I then handed Classic a Purple Skunk sticker which made me, Classic, and dad stoked! Upon entering the Jam, I walked over to watch my favorite skater (besides Micke) Steve Alba play guitar with
the “Clay Wheels”, and Boy did they rock! With the day getting more juicier with every step, I now noticed
that Lester Kasai was present. O.K. so you ready for this ? Kasai, Caballero, and Hosoi – BLASTING AIRS as if
we were back in the 80’s and stylish as ever! The day kept on like this and we kept raging on and on. After
all this beautiful madness we ended the day with my Coleman stove cooking up veggie dogs at a picnic table.
Over ? Nope. Here come Katie and Sarah, two San Franciscan girls that I skate the Potrero park with and
totally down for veggie dogs. I don’t think Tim wanted this day to end for us CUZZ now here comes Sergie
Ventura to hang with us. Man, a party all over again! If it wasn’t for the Park Ranger clearing out the parking
lot, who knows when we would have left ? Thanks again Tim, you will never be forgotten!!!
